In the Augšdaugava municipality of Latvia, border guards have apprehended three Sri Lankan citizens traveling in a Volkswagen Polo. This incident marks the second time in recent events that Sri Lankan nationals have been detained in the same location for suspected immigration offenses.

Upon investigation, it was discovered that the six individuals found in the car's salon were all of Asian descent and did not possess residence permits, visas, or travel documents. Initially, these individuals were not identified as drivers or passengers in any of the previously mentioned vehicles. However, further investigation revealed that they were indeed the occupants of the Volkswagen Polo.

Interestingly, the three apprehended Sri Lankan citizens, like the previous six, share the same ethnicity. They are now suspected of providing support to persons illegally crossing the border.

The criminal proceedings initiated against the three Sri Lankan citizens are for knowingly providing a person with the possibility to reside illegally in Latvia in an organized group. The penalty for such an offense may include a term of imprisonment of between two and eight years.

However, it's worth noting that the search results do not contain information about the name of any organization or group suspected of supporting the illegal border crossing by the arrested Sri Lankans at the Latvian border.

In a surprising turn of events, it was found that the driver of the car was a Sri Lankan citizen with a valid residence permit, as was the passenger. This raises questions about the nature of the group and their intentions.

As the investigation continues, it is crucial to emphasize the importance of legal immigration procedures and the consequences of knowingly aiding and abetting illegal immigration activities. The border guards remain vigilant in their efforts to maintain the integrity of Latvia's borders and uphold the law.
