In Weilerswist, on Sunday (24th August), a 47-year-old truck driver found himself in hot water after an alcohol-fuelled accident on the Bonn Road.

The incident began when the truck driver, whose name remains undisclosed, veered off course, zigzagging dangerously through the roads. An attentive witness swiftly notified the police about the truck's erratic behaviour.

The truck, a tractor unit and trailer, weighed approximately 40 tons. Despite its size, the quick reaction of oncoming drivers managed to prevent a chain reaction, averting potential disaster. However, the impact of the truck was significant enough to cause the traffic light it collided with to bend significantly.

The police were able to stop the truck a short time later on the Bonn Road. Upon stopping the vehicle, it was discovered that the truck driver's unusual driving was due to his impaired condition. A breath alcohol test revealed a level of 2.94 per mille in the truck driver.

Following the test, a blood sample was taken at the Euskirchen police station. As a result, the truck driver spent the night in a holding cell due to his condition.

In addition to his impaired driving, the truck driver also faces charges of endangering road traffic due to alcohol and hit-and-run. The truck driver did not remain at the scene of the accident.
