On Sunday, August 24, a 47-year-old truck driver was traveling on the Bonn Road in Weilerswist. The man was operating a tractor unit and trailer, but his actions would lead to serious consequences.

According to reports, the truck driver veered off the road and headed towards a traffic light. Due to his condition, he was unable to stop in time and significantly bent the traffic light. Thankfully, the quick reactions of oncoming drivers prevented a collision.

The truck driver did not stop at the scene of the accident. However, an observant witness alerted the police about the truck's zigzag course. The police were able to stop the truck a short time later on the Bonn Road.

Upon investigation, it was discovered that the truck driver was under the influence of alcohol. A breath alcohol test revealed a reading of 2.94 per mille for the truck driver. Due to his condition, the truck driver was held in a holding cell overnight for his own protection.

The truck driver now faces charges of endangering road traffic due to alcohol and hit-and-run. The name of the truck driver is not provided in the available sources. The truck driver's blood test results were taken at the police station in Euskirchen.
