Inferred FIFA referee labeling Levnikov's match errors as "inexplicable"
In a tense clash between Dinamo and CSKA in the Russian Premier League (RPL), former FIFA referee Sergei Lapochkin has criticised the refereeing team for a series of controversial decisions that, he believes, affected the outcome of the match.
The focus of Lapochkin's criticism was the VAR referee, Sergei Ivanov, who, despite clear video evidence, failed to correct obvious errors in two controversial situations. In the first instance, Danila Krugovoy was incorrectly shown a yellow card for simulation, while Igor Leschuk should have been sent off and a penalty awarded. In the second controversial episode, Denis Makarov fouled Matheus Alves in the penalty area, but the referee did not notice, despite the intervention of the video assistants.
Lapochkin expressed serious concern about the systemic problem of Russian refereeing, noting that such errors occur regularly. He emphasised the non-intervention of VAR referee Sergei Ivanov, who did not correct the obvious error despite clear video evidence of contact. The punishments for referees, according to Lapochkin, remain insignificant.
The controversial decisions have left both teams with a difficult task ahead. Dinamo will face Pari NN at home on Saturday, while CSKA will travel to Tolyatti to play Akron on Sunday. Both teams are keen on consolidating their positions and performing well in the next round.
Currently, CSKA is in the second position in the RPL table with 11 points, while Dinamo is in the 13th position with 5 points. The next round will take place on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
Lapochkin called two key errors inexplicable and believes that with the VAR system in place, only correct decisions should be made in obvious situations. As the league continues, fans and pundits alike will be keeping a close eye on the refereeing decisions, hoping for a more accurate and fair game.
