In the heart of rural Germany, the city of Kirchhellen, part of Bottrop, is spearheading an innovative project aimed at driving alternative approaches for the energy transition. This project, known as Prima.Klima.Kirchhellen, was officially launched on February 13, 2025.
The focus of this new initiative is on the heat sector and defossilization of the energy and heat supply. The city is committed to securing additional funding for the implementation of project ideas in the quarter.
Citizens are invited to participate in the project and stay informed about its progress. They can do so by attending digital consultations, which will commence in May, or by engaging online. The link for the digital consultation series is available here: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/3529384845?omn=83638274244.
Upon clicking the link, participants will initially land in a digital waiting area and will be personally admitted to the consultation room by the consultant. The office of the renovation management, responsible for guiding participants towards a successful and sustainable renovation, can be contacted at Kirchhellener Ring 86, 46244 Bottrop, and is open every first Thursday of the month from 2 to 6 pm.
The consultation offers will provide valuable information on savings potential, renovation variants, funding opportunities, practical tips on financing, climate protection, and climate adaptation. The existing district heating network will be specifically expanded as part of the project.
Beyond Kirchhellen, the city of Bottrop is also involved in the intermunicipal, Ruhr-wide project Prima.Clima.RuhrMetropole. This project aims to create eight experimental and innovative energy quarters by 2029. As part of this project, different methods of integrated energy quarter development will be combined to create role models for the entire region.
In addition to the digital consultations, the city of Bottrop is hosting a seminar on "Climate-friendly Gardening" on July 3, 2025, in Bottrop. This seminar will offer practical tips on sustainable and resource-saving garden design.
The ultimate goal of the project in Kirchhellen is to develop measures that reduce energy consumption, promote renewable energy, and serve climate adaptation. The project also aims at climate adaptation, upgrading of the public space, and reducing heat and heavy rain problems.
