"Initiating assault on Gaza City" - Initial measures for an offensive attack

In a developing situation, the Israeli army has initiated the first steps of its offensive on the city of Gaza, located in the north of the Gaza Strip. The city has been classified as a "dangerous combat zone" by the Israeli leadership.

The Israeli army has recovered the bodies of two hostages, including Ilan Weiss, a resident of the kibbutz of Beeri, and an unidentified individual, from the Gaza Strip. Weiss was tragically killed on the day of the Hamas massacre on October 7, 2023, as confirmed officially in January 2024. President Izchak Herzog praised Weiss' courage and magnanimity in the fight against terrorists.

The recovery of the hostages comes amidst reports that the Israeli leadership plans to resettle the estimated one million residents of Gaza to the south. However, aid organizations have warned of an escalation of the fighting in the area and criticized the catastrophic conditions in the refugee camps where the population is to be resettled.

Currently, 48 hostages are still being held by extremists in the Gaza Strip, with 20 reported to be alive. Among the hostages are some who hold both Israeli and German citizenship, although specific individuals have not been publicly named. It is worth noting that multiple Israeli hostages, some with dual nationalities, were taken during the Supernova festival attack, and some have been released through negotiations, while others remain captive.

The Israeli army's offensive on Gaza is progressing "with great intensity" in the outskirts of the city. Preparatory operations are underway for the takeover of the city, with the hope that this will bring an end to the hostage crisis and bring peace to the region. The ceasefire, which was supposed to allow humanitarian aid deliveries, no longer applies in the area.

As the situation continues to unfold, updates will be provided regarding the progress of the Israeli army's offensive, the status of the remaining hostages, and the resettlement plans for the population of Gaza.
