Initiation of Bergisch Gladbach's initial school roadway

In the heart of Bergisch Gladbach, a new initiative has been launched to enhance safety around schools and preserve the quality of life in neighbourhoods. The city's latest project, a school street, was inaugurated today at the KGS "In der Auen".

The school street, designed with the intention of improving safety for children, is the result of the city's commitment to developing measures based on broad consensus, fact-based, pragmatic, and in dialogue with the people on site. Ragnar Migenda, First Deputy Mayor of Bergisch Gladbach, expressed his approval of the measure, praising the city administration's mobility expertise and the trust placed in them.

During specific hours, the street area in front of the school remains almost car-free, with motorized traffic diverted to surrounding streets. Concerns about traffic flow on "In der Auen" street have been alleviated, as the diversion has not significantly impeded traffic flow.

School principal Anton Pezl confirmed that both residents and the majority of parents welcomed the measure. The feedback from the school community has been positive, with many parents showing understanding for the initiative. Moni Kellermann, chairperson of the school parents' council at the KGS, also approved of the measure.

Ragnar Migenda expressed gratitude to the school, parents, and residents for their cooperation in the successful start of the school street. He acknowledged the openness and willingness of the school community in creating solutions together. The city administration will continue to closely monitor the implementation of the school street and is available for questions and suggestions at [email protected].

The pilot phase for the school street will last for one year, after which the city will assess its impact and consider whether to make it a permanent fixture. The goal of the school street measure is to ensure the safety of children while preserving the quality of life in the neighbourhood.

The school street in Bergisch Gladbach's KGS "In der Auen" marks an important step in the city's ongoing efforts to create safer and more livable urban spaces. With the successful start of this initiative, Bergisch Gladbach continues to set an example for other cities in promoting sustainable and community-focused urban development.
