Injury to Teacher - Student Detained by Authorities
In a shocking turn of events, a 17-year-old Kosovar from Essen is suspected of attacking a teacher at a local vocational college on Friday. The suspect, who has not been named in publicly available sources, allegedly attempted to stab the teacher with a knife.
The incident unfolded near the main train station, where the suspect was apprehended in a park. A special forces unit overpowered the teenager, leading to the wide cordoning off of the area near the station. During the arrest, the suspect pulled out a knife, causing the police to shoot. The injured suspect was then taken to a hospital.
The 45-year-old teacher, who was stabbed multiple times, was responsive at all times during the incident. The teacher's stab wound was at chest height and transitioned to the abdominal area. She was treated by the rescue service on site and then taken to the hospital. The exact health condition of the teacher cannot currently be verified, but she is currently under medical care.
Classes at the college are expected to resume as normal on Monday, with teachers adapting lessons to the situation in each class or course. School psychologists arrived shortly after the incident and will be present again on Monday to provide support to students and staff.
The police have a large presence at the college and special units have cordoned off the building. No other persons were attacked during the incident. The incident caused great concern for the parents of students at the college, with many continuing to wait in front of the cordoned-off building at midday.
At this time, there is no information yet on the possible motive for the attack. It is highly likely that the arrested person is the suspected attacker. Some students maintained contact with their parents via mobile phone during the incident, which lasted for four and a half hours. A helicopter was seen circling over the college during the incident.
The police are currently investigating the incident and further updates will be provided as information becomes available. The community of Essen is urged to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
