In the vibrant continent of Africa, a new wave of architectural innovation is taking shape. Here are some of the key players shaping the future of African architecture:

HTL Africa

Established by James George in 2011, HTL Africa is an architecture practice based in Nigeria with a focus on performance and environmental enhancement. George, who trained at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Nigeria, is committed to creating sustainable and culturally relevant designs.

CM Design Atelier

Led by Tosin Oshinowo, CM Design Atelier is a Lagos-based architecture studio employing ten architects, designers, and project managers. Oshinowo's work is grounded in a deep respect for her native Yoruba culture, fusing modernism with the African context.

Atelier Worofila

Inspired by a street in a lovely, old, preserved part of Dakar, Fann-Hock area, Atelier Worofila is an eight-strong architecture practice based in Senegal. The studio, established in 2019 by Nzinga Mboup and Nicolas Rondet, is passionate about working with local materials, climate, and skills.

Atelier Inhyah

Based in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire, Atelier Inhyah, founded by Tara-Aude Koffi in 2020, is interested in creating a sustainable ecosystem that benefits local craftspeople. The studio is currently working on approximately four key projects, including sustainable residential buildings, cultural centers, and innovative urban development initiatives.

Studio Contra

Based in Lagos, Nigeria, Studio Contra, established in 2016 by Olayinka Dosekun-Adjei and Jeffrey Adjei, is committed to creating spaces that elevate, dignify, and provide a better quality of life. The practice is currently working on several cultural commissions in Kwara, a state in western Nigeria.

Atelier Masōmī

Founded by Mariam Issoufou Kamara in 2014, Atelier Masōmī is based in Niger. With a main office in Niamey and a studio in New York, the firm believes in creating spaces that bring poetry into the architectural milieu and create 'liveable artistic installations'.

Jeannette Studio

Based in the Côte d'Ivoire, Jeannette Studio, founded by Mélissa Kacoutié in 2016, aims to bring poetry into the Ivorian architectural milieu and creates 'liveable artistic installations'.

Hive Earth

Established by Joelle Eyeson and Kwame Deheer in 2017, Hive Earth is a crucial player in rammed-earth construction methods in Ghana.

Limbo Accra

Based in Accra, Ghana, Limbo Accra, founded in 2018 by Dominique Petit-Frère and Emil Grip, collaborates with architects and designers from various locations including Copenhagen, London, Abidjan, Bombay, and beyond. The name was inspired by the numerous uncompleted buildings in Accra.

Mamy Tall

Based in Senegal, Mamy Tall is an architect passionate about urban planning, bioclimatic construction, and the intersection of fashion and architecture.
