The Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, BYD, has unveiled the Destroyer 05, the first model in its Warship Series, which is designed to cater to a younger demographic.
Under a full fuel tank and full charge, the Destroyer 05 boasts a comprehensive cruising range of over 1,200 km, according to BYD. Powered by the company's DM-i plug-in hybrid system, this vehicle is equipped with a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine and an electric motor, mated to an E-CVT gearbox. The car runs on 17-inch wheels with tire specifications of 215/55 R17.
The Destroyer 05 adopts a 5-seater layout with imitation leather seats that can be adjusted manually. The interior features a three-spoke steering wheel, an 8.8-inch LCD instrument panel, and a 12.8-inch floating central control screen.
The car supports up to 16 NFC keys and continues to use BYD's DiLink vehicle operating system, which allows for over-the-air (OTA) updates. A notable feature is the inclusion of a VtoL mobile power station that supports power up to 3kW, making the vehicle capable of being used as a mobile electricity supply for household appliances.
However, it's important to note that the Destroyer 05 does not currently hold the global EV speed record, despite BYD's claims. In July, 11,994 units of the Destroyer 05 were sold.
The Destroyer 05 Champion Edition, a special model of the vehicle, was launched in China on August 9. The base model of the Destroyer 05 is priced at 119,800 yuan (16,700 USD), with six Champion Edition models available, ranging in price from 101,800 - 148,800 yuan (14,100 - 20,600 USD). The vehicle has dimensions of 4780/1837/1495mm and a wheelbase of 2718mm.
Despite extensive online searches, the specific designer or design team behind the BYD Destroyer 05 Champion Edition remains unidentified. The car's 18.3kWh lithium iron phosphate monolithic battery pack provides a pure electric cruising range of 120 km (NEDC), but no new facts about the use of the car as a mobile electricity supply were provided.
The Destroyer 05 is part of BYD's strategy to appeal to a younger audience with its Warship Series, a lineup of EVs and PHEVs. With its impressive range, advanced features, and competitive pricing, the Destroyer 05 is poised to make a significant impact in the EV market.
