"American Love Story" will delve into the life of John F. Kennedy Jr. and his wife, Carolyn Bessette, two figures who had a significant impact on the '90s. Naomi Watts will portray Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, while Sarah Pidgeon will take on the role of Carolyn Bessette. Grace Gummer, Meryl Streep's daughter, will portray JFK Jr.'s sister, Caroline Kennedy.
The series' portrayal of Bessette-Kennedy's style has been a point of focus, given her influence in the '90s. However, there has been a media stir over various aspects of the production, with Pidgeon's costumes and hair color receiving criticism. Bessette-Kennedy's former colorist expressed dissatisfaction with Pidgeon's hair color in the series.
Murphy commented on the criticism, stating that Carolyn Bessette is a "religious figure" whose image is being interpreted differently. He further discussed the matter in an article published by Variety.
Paul Anthony Kelly will play John F. Kennedy Jr., and Ben Shenkman will portray Edwin Schlossberg. Alessandro Nivola will take on the role of Calvin Klein, adding a touch of fashion industry intrigue to the series.
"American Love Story" will explore the couple's courtship, marriage, and tragic deaths. The series is in the tradition of Murphy's previous anthologies, following in the footsteps of "American Crime Story," which has previously explored the O.J.
