Insights into the Initial Phases of Star Wars' New Republic

The New Republic, a beacon of hope after the Battle of Endor, was established on Chandrila, the Republic's newest capital. Mon Mothma, elected as the first (provisional) chancellor, sent a clear message to the galaxy: a new era of order was upon us.

However, the New Republic's inception did little to change the state of power in the galaxy initially. Internal challenges arose, with rivals seeking to push back on Mothma's goals of decentralization and eventual disarmament. The Military Disarmament Act, which stripped the office of the Chancellor of many emergency executive powers, was introduced in the Republic Senate.

The New Republic faced a significant test on Jakku, where a new Imperial ruling council, led by Fleet Admiral Gallius Rax, sought to draw the New Republic into a pitched battle. The New Republic's military intervention was delayed due to votes in the Senate being coerced by crime syndicates. However, the Starhawk Concord played a crucial role in turning the tide of the battle in favor of the New Republic.

Meanwhile, the victory on Akiva, a world in the Outer Rim, saw the Imperial Future Council almost completely eradicated, shattering the Empire's broader grip on the region. The successful liberation of Kuat, home of Kuat Drive Yards' shipyards, saw more and more Outer Rim worlds secede to the New Republic.

The Galactic Civil War ended with the signing of the Galactic Concordance, resulting in the Empire's total surrender to the New Republic. Coruscant, the former capital of the Republic and now the Empire's primary seat of power, was locked in a bitter civil war after Palpatine's death.

In an attempt to divide the focus of the Rebellion and turn public sentiment against it, Operation Cinder, an interstellar campaign initiated by Palpatine posthumously, targeted multiple worlds with climate-disruption lasers.

The Senate of the New Republic was moved from Chandrila to Nakadia to guarantee its safety, following a violent attack during peace talks between the New Republic and the Empire. This wave of panic led to worlds petitioning for senatorial representation and Republic membership to back out, while others sought to relocate the Senate away from the world. Other systems proposed the resurgence of independent alliances, rather than a singular unified government that could be threatened by repeat attacks.

Various independent galactic powers emerged, forming their own governmental systems. The formal establishment of the New Republic did not specify an exact date after the victory at the Battle of Endor. Coruscant was formally given over to the New Republic, and the Empire was given dedicated space within the core and inner sectors.

The New Republic began amnesty programs to recruit former Imperial officers and citizens for rehabilitation into Republic society. This move was crucial in strengthening the New Republic's military might and solidifying its position in the galaxy. The New Republic continues to strive for peace and unity, a stark contrast to the turmoil of the Galactic Civil War.
