Baden-Württemberg, the southwestern German state, is bracing itself for a series of heavy rain and severe thunderstorms starting from Thursday afternoon.

According to the German Weather Service (DWD), the state is expected to experience these weather conditions as a whole. The heavy rain is anticipated to fall in showers, with up to 60 liters of rain per square meter possible within three to six hours.

On Monday evening, heavy rain and severe weather in southern Oberschwaben led to multiple deployments by the fire department, with basements flooding, trees falling, and some roads underwater. In the Bodenseekreis, there were about four dozen deployments, and in the district of Ravensburg, they were called out around 30 times.

The severe weather occurring in the Oberschwaben region on Monday evening is expected to affect Baden-Württemberg again tomorrow (Tuesday) with initially heavy clouds and rain, followed by clearing and drier conditions in the afternoon. The weather is expected to be accompanied by moderate southwest winds and fresh to strong gusts, especially on the Black Forest peaks, where gusts of up to 90 kilometers per hour are possible. Such rainfall could lead to flooded basements in some areas of Baden-Württemberg.

If the gusts in Baden-Württemberg are as strong as predicted, they could blow around smaller objects in gardens. The DWD emphasizes that gusts of up to 90 kilometers per hour do not constitute a severe weather warning. The DWD also did not issue a severe weather warning for the heavy rain and thunderstorms in Baden-Württemberg during the weekend.

Thunderstorms are expected to move from southwest to northeast through Baden-Württemberg overnight Thursday into Friday. The DWD anticipates localized severe weather, particularly in the eastern part of the state.

On a positive note, the weather in Baden-Württemberg is expected to calm down after the band of thunderstorms and heavy rain. By Friday morning, many clouds are expected in the state, with increasing sunshine from the west later in the day, as per the DWD's predictions.

Residents of Baden-Württemberg are advised to stay informed and take necessary precautions during this weather event.
