Fire Department of Grevenbroich Battles Multi-Hour Blaze in Commercial Building

In the early hours of Tuesday, a fire broke out in a commercial building on Landsberger Straße in the Neukirchen district of Grevenbroich. The fire department was swiftly on the scene, with volunteers from Hemmerden providing basic protection for the city area at the fire station.

The fire, which involved old furniture and paper, triggered at around 4:20 a.m. Initially, it was unclear whether there might be people in the building, which had been vacant for some time. The thick smoke inside the building made the search for potential occupants and the fight against the fire time-consuming.

Despite the challenges, the fire department was able to contain the risk of the fire spreading to nearby buildings quickly. However, the extinguishing of the fire in the basement took several more hours, and the use of foam proved effective in ending the ongoing smoke development. At around 8 a.m., the incident commander decided to flood the basement with foam to smother the remaining fires.

The fire was not extinguished until nearly five and a half hours later. Approximately 50 firefighters were involved in the operation, with volunteer units from Neukirchen, Hülchrath, Kapellen, Wevelinghoven, and the city center present at the scene. Fortunately, no one was injured in the fire.

Once the fire was under control, the fire department handed over the scene to the owner and the police fire investigators in Rhein-Kreis Neuss at around 9:45 a.m. The fire department cannot make any statements about the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage at this time.
