Intensified Disregard: Banditry Assails Kaduna, Residents Appeal for Attention amid Unrest
In the heart of Kaduna State lies Kachia Local Government Area, a community that has been enduring more than two years without consistent electricity and relying on solar power where possible. Recently, the residents of this area have expressed concern over the underreporting of bandit attacks and kidnappings, which have been occurring daily.
On Sunday, September 7, 2025, bandits attacked Wakeh village in Agunu District, killing eight people and injuring many others. Homes and property were burned, leaving the community in despair. This incident is just one of many that have affected several villages including Ankwa, Bishini, Katari, and others, resulting in displacement, trauma, and a sense of hopelessness.
The community has urged major media houses to take notice of these security challenges and has called for stronger community-based surveillance in Kachia. Local leaders are also urged to be engaged in addressing these issues. Residents are urged to report suspicious activities and support one another in defending their communities.
Rev. Fr. Gabriel, a local leader, has spoken out, questioning the absence of correspondents or reporters from major media houses in Kachia and Kaduna. He stated that the poor people of Kachia town, who used to host internally displaced persons from surrounding villages, are now being targeted. He ended his statement by asking, "Where are the correspondents or reporters of major media houses in Kaduna and Kachia?"
The community's statement concluded by stating that Kachia does not deserve such neglect. They emphasized the area's potential and importance to the state, urging collective action to protect vulnerable villages. The residents of Kachia have appealed to Governor Uba Sani to urgently address the insecurity in the area.
As the community continues to face these challenges, they stand firm in their belief that Kachia exists and deserves the attention and support of all. They call for increased media coverage and community engagement to help address the security issues and bring peace to their homes.
