Interfaith appeal for tranquility held at Fronhof by Evangelical church for spiritual unity
On Friday, September 13, at 6:00 PM, the city of Solingen will come together for an interreligious peace prayer event. The heart of the gathering will be the "Engel der Kulturen" sculpture, a symbol of peaceful coexistence among religions, which has stood on the Fronhof since 2012.
Created by artists Carmen Dietrich and Gregor Merten, the "Engel der Kulturen" features an angel figure, the Islamic crescent, the Jewish Star of David, and the Christian cross. This unique artwork has not only been associated with terrorism and death but also with respectful and peaceful coexistence among religions.
During the event, Dietrich and Merten will symbolically clean the "Engel der Kulturen" to emphasize the event's message of peaceful coexistence. This act is a testament to the artists' commitment to promoting unity and respect within the community.
The event is jointly organized by the Evangelical Church Circle Solingen, the Circle of Solingen Muslims, and the Association of Christian Churches. Pastor Jens Maßmann, responsible for the Christian-Islamic Dialogue at the Evangelical Church Circle Solingen, is one of the co-initiators of the peace prayer.
All Solingen residents, regardless of their faith, are warmly invited to the event. The purpose of the event is to set a public sign for peace and community, emphasizing the original mission of all religions: peaceful coexistence for the benefit of all.
The "Engel der Kulturen" will be a central part of the interreligious peace prayer event. By participating in this symbolic act, the community of Solingen will reaffirm their commitment to respectful and peaceful coexistence among religions, fostering a harmonious and inclusive environment for all its residents.
