International fugitive apprehended by German federal authorities at Cologne-Bonn Airport
On Thursday, August 28, 2025, officers from the German Federal Police (Bundespolizei) made a significant arrest at Cologne/Bonn Airport. At around 5:00 PM, during departure control for a flight to Istanbul-Sabiha Gökcen, a 32-year-old Iraqi woman from Belgium was apprehended based on an international arrest warrant issued by the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) following a U.S. extradition request for charges of money laundering and concealing illegally obtained assets.
The arrest took place in coordination with the BKA and the Cologne Police Presidency. The woman was provisionally arrested and taken to the federal police station for further proceedings.
Later that evening, at around 10:30 PM, the arrested woman was transferred to the detention facility of the Cologne Police Presidency.
The Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) had an outstanding international arrest warrant for the woman, and the warrant was based on the extradition request from the United States of America.
