Iraqi Woman Arrested at Cologne/Bonn Airport on Suspicion of Money Laundering

In a significant development, a 32-year-old Iraqi woman from Belgium was arrested at Cologne/Bonn Airport on August 28, 2025. The arrest was made by federal police officers in coordination with the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) and the Cologne Police Presidency.

The arrest was based on an international arrest warrant issued by the BKA due to an extradition request from the United States of America (USA) for alleged money laundering and concealing illegally obtained assets.

The woman was initially arrested during departure control for a flight to Istanbul-Sabiha Gökçen. The warrant was executed in coordination with the BKA and the Cologne Police Presidency.

Upon her arrest, the woman was provisionally arrested and taken to the federal police station. Later in the evening, at around 10:30 PM, she was transferred to the detention facility of the Cologne Police Presidency.

The authority responsible for executing the arrest warrant against the woman is the police, as they are empowered to enforce such warrants through coercive means in Germany.

The federal police's arrest of the woman marks an important step in international cooperation to combat cross-border crime. Further inquiries can be directed to the Federal Police Directorate Sankt Augustin Press Office.
