Internet users warned: Hackers may pilfer sensitive data from Google Chrome users if necessary precautions are not taken

In a recent development, the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has issued a high-severity security alert for Google Chrome users on desktop platforms. The advisory (CIVN-2025-0204) warns about multiple vulnerabilities in Google Chrome that could expose systems to remote attacks.

These vulnerabilities, according to the advisory, exist due to use-after-free in V8 and inappropriate implementation in Toolbar, Extensions, and Downloads. The risks of these vulnerabilities are significant, affecting both individuals and businesses that rely on Chrome for daily tasks due to its large desktop user base.

The vulnerabilities can execute arbitrary code and could allow attackers to bypass existing security restrictions on the target system. The successful attack could lead to system compromise, data theft, and major service disruptions.

CERT-In strongly advises all Google Chrome users to apply the most recent security updates immediately. For Google Chrome version 140.0.7339.80/81, the official fix for the vulnerabilities has been pushed to the stable channel by Google. Users on Windows, macOS, and Linux are advised to update their Chrome browsers to the latest version.
