Intoxicated motorist intentionally strikes and kills revelers at gathering

In the early hours of August 30, a dramatic incident unfolded at a wine bar in the heart of Évreux (Eure), France. The incident, which occurred at around 4:00 AM, has left one person dead and several others injured.

The tragedy began inside the bar, where a fight initially broke out. As the altercation escalated, a customer, reportedly an employee of the establishment, reversed his vehicle onto the sidewalk, striking at least 5 or 6 people.

The incident has shaken the local community, particularly the neighbourhood where the bar is located, which is already marked by nighttime tensions. Many residents have reported regular nighttime incidents near the establishment. One neighbour testified that fights have occurred before.

Following the incident, several people were evacuated from the bar. Five others were injured, two of whom are in critical condition. The injured were quickly attended to by emergency services, and the deceased was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Mayor of Évreux, Guy Lefrand, denounced the establishment for not respecting its closing hours. He publicly spoke out against the bar repeatedly violating operating regulations in the tragic incident. The bar made a statement on social media about the employee's condition and expressed condolences to the families of the victims.

Three people, two men and one woman, have been placed in custody. An investigation for voluntary homicide has been opened, with no evidence of terrorist or racist motive at this stage. Police conducted scientific evidence collection and witness interviews to advance the investigation.

The Mayor of Évreux has called for stricter enforcement of regulations to prevent such incidents from happening again. The incident can be watched in its entirety through the provided video link. The authorities urge anyone with information relevant to the investigation to come forward.
