BMW is making a significant move in the Chinese automotive market by launching new versions of the 5 Series, with the highlight being the 535Li. Similar to Mercedes-Benz's recent strategy, BMW is tailoring a special version of the 5 Series specifically for China.
The 535Li is set to make its debut at the upcoming Beijing Auto Show next month. While the exact price has not been announced yet, it is expected to be around 450,000 RMB. The price responsibility for the BMW 535Li in China lies with the initial exporter or seller, who sets the offer price before additional operational costs such as logistics, customs, and service fees are applied.
One notable feature of the 535Li is the increased space, designed primarily for the comfort of passengers in the back. The car is 14 centimeters longer than the standard model, ensuring a more spacious and comfortable ride. Under the hood, the long five will be equipped with a 2.8-liter engine.
In addition to the 535Li, BMW is also launching other new models of the 5 Series in China, all designed with enhanced features. However, no new information about the standard version of the BMW 5-series was provided.
Meanwhile, Audi has also made its mark in China with the unveiling of the Q6, starting at $74,000. There has been no new information about other new cars in China or the controversy over BMW's photoshops to emphasize the Chinese-ness of the long-car version.
Brilliance-BMW, a joint venture between BMW and the Chinese automaker Brilliance Auto, is set to start building the new 5 series in China soon. The specifics of the production timeline were not disclosed.
Stay tuned for more updates from the Beijing Auto Show next month, where we will get a closer look at the new BMW 5 Series models, including the 535Li.
