Investigation by the National Investigation Agency not required in the Dharmasthala matter, according to Dinesh Gundu Rao
In the heart of Karnataka, the political landscape is heating up as the BJP prepares to rally in Dharmasthala on September 1. The event, dubbed 'Dharmasthala Chalo', is a protest against what the party perceives as a propaganda campaign against the revered Dharmasthala temple.
Capt Brijesh Chowta, the State BJP Secretary and Dakshina Kannada MP, has announced the event, with many party leaders and Central ministers expected to attend. The BJP's move comes in response to the ongoing investigation by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) into alleged mass burials in Dharmasthala.
However, the Karnataka Minister in charge of Dakshina Kannada district, Dinesh Gundu Rao, has expressed confidence in the Karnataka police's ability to bring out the truth in the matter. He has urged the BJP to refrain from such politics and instead focus on fighting for Karnataka to receive its fair share in tax devolution.
Rao has also accused the BJP of engaging in politics in the name of religion, a charge that the BJP has yet to directly address. He believes that if any issues arise during the SIT's investigation, they can be addressed.
Interestingly, the BJP had earlier welcomed the SIT investigation. However, Capt Brijesh Chowta has expressed doubts about how the SIT investigation is being conducted, stating that a propaganda is being carried out against the Dharmasthala temple, which he believes is impacting the sentiments of Hindus.
The Chief Minister of Karnataka, Vijayendra Yediyurappa, who is also the BJP Karnataka president, organized the "Dharmasthala Chalo" event held on September 1, 2025, in Dharmasthala. Dinesh Gundu Rao, on the other hand, has criticized the BJP for proposing the 'Dharmasthala chalo' rally.

As the date for the 'Dharmasthala Chalo' event approaches, the political tension in Karnataka continues to rise, with both parties firmly entrenched in their positions. The outcome of this standoff could have significant implications for the political landscape of the state.
