"Investigation Continues: Week Two in Search for Accused Murderer of Victoria Police Officer"
In a series of tragic events, the Victorian police are currently searching for Dezi Freeman, who is accused of killing two police officers. The funeral arrangements for Senior Constable Vadim De Waart and Detective Leading Senior Constable Neal Thompson will take place on Friday.
Dezi Freeman is alleged to have taken the lives of Thompson, 59, and De Waart, 35, in a violent incident at his property in Porepunkah last week. The police have been searching for Freeman since the incident, with more than 400 officers involved in the manhunt.
Meanwhile, Victoria Police Superintendent Brett Kahan believes that people hold the key to Freeman's whereabouts. Kahan couldn't confirm whether Freeman's wife, Amalia Freeman, who was arrested last week, would be charged. Amalia Freeman has since pleaded for her husband to surrender.
The police are urging the public not to approach Freeman, as he might be armed. The hunt for Freeman will resume on Saturday, with the police using various tactics to locate him. This includes the use of a police helicopter equipped with infrared and thermal cameras that can detect heat through dense bushland. However, these tools have their limits, especially when Freeman is hiding in a cave, rock ledge, or mine shaft.
Coates, a spokesperson for the police, suggested that Freeman may have previously stored food and water near his home, but his survival is hampered by his efforts to stay hidden. Coates thinks it unlikely Freeman could survive under the radar for a long time due to technological developments.
Elsewhere, a fresh appeal for information has been made regarding Tom Phillips, who disappeared with his three children in December 2021. The local police are urging anyone with information about Phillips' whereabouts to come forward.
In a separate incident, a masked man believed to be New Zealand man Tom Phillips was accused over a shop robbery last week. It is unclear whether this is the same Tom Phillips who disappeared with his children.
On a more sombre note, funeral arrangements have been finalised for Thompson and De Waart. The community will bid farewell to these brave officers on Friday.
The stories of Freeman, Thompson, De Waart, and Phillips serve as a stark reminder of the importance of community support in the pursuit of justice and the dangers that our law enforcement officers face every day.
