In the first two months of 2011, Honda Motor Company saw a year-on-year increase of 4.4 percent in sales volume, despite a decrease in sales in February. However, the specific company driving this growth remains undisclosed.
In contrast, Honda's sales in China took a dip in February 2011, with a decrease of 6.5 percent. This decline affected both of Honda's joint ventures in the country, Guangzhou Honda Automobile Co., Ltd and Dongfeng Honda Automobile Co., Ltd, with the former experiencing a 19.6 percent decrease and the latter a more modest 18 percent increase. Guangzhou Honda sold 23,000 vehicles in February, while Dongfeng Honda managed to sell 18,000 units during the same period.
Fast forward to 2025, and the landscape of the Chinese automotive market has shifted significantly. The Geely Xingyuan emerged as the top-selling New Energy Vehicle (NEV) in China in May 2025, selling an impressive 38,715 units. The BYD Seagull followed closely behind in second place with 31,105 units sold, while the BYD Qin Plus took the third spot with 29,328 units sold.
Dongfeng Honda Automobile Co., Ltd continued to show growth in 2025, with no specific sales volume figures provided. Leapmotor, another player in the NEV market, sold 48,006 units of NEVs in an unspecified month, demonstrating the increasing popularity of electric vehicles in China.
The Denza D9 and the Geely Geome Xingyue L were among the best-selling passenger vehicles in China in April 2025, further highlighting the diversity of the Chinese market. Xiaomi also entered the NEV market, selling more than 25,000 units, although the exact month of these sales is not specified.
Lastly, HIMA, a Chinese NEV startup, reported sales of 52,747 units in June 2025, indicating a strong presence in the rapidly growing electric vehicle market.
Toyota and Mazda also experienced a decrease in sales volume in China in February, suggesting that the automotive market in China was facing a general downturn during that period.
In conclusion, while Honda Motor Company faced a slight setback in sales in China in 2011, the company has shown resilience and adaptability in the face of market changes. The 2025 Chinese automotive market, particularly the NEV sector, presents a promising landscape for companies like Honda, with new players and continued growth in sales volumes.
