In a series of events that have raised concerns about personal safety and security, a 44-year-old Cameroonian national has been identified as the suspect in a suitcase theft incident that took place at Saalfeld station on May 4, 2025.

The incident involved a 27-year-old Pakistani traveler who had left his luggage on a regional train between Lichtenfels and Saalfeld. The suitcase contained a backpack with personal valuables. Video recordings of the incident and the suspect were available, aiding in the investigation.

On May 4, at approximately 5:00 PM, an unknown male suspect stole the abandoned suitcase from the station. The Federal Police Inspectorate Erfurt, along with neighbouring authorities, played a role in the investigation and were able to identify the suspect.

Yesterday morning, federal police investigators searched the suspect's apartment in Halle/Saale but he was not present. During the search, the backpack and parts of the stolen items were found and secured.

The Cameroonian is also facing charges for embezzlement, separate from the suitcase theft. However, specific details about the embezzlement charges have not been provided.

In light of these events, the Federal Police is encouraging train passengers to be more careful with their luggage and valuables to deter theft. Contact information for the Federal Police Inspectorate Erfurt is as follows: Phone: 0361/ 659830, Email: [email protected], Website: http://www.bundespolizei.de.
