Investigation of Illegal Activities: New Leads Involving Suspect Named John Doe Emerges

In Augsburg, there have been significant changes to the regulations regarding passports, ID cards, electronic residence titles, and travel documents for foreign nationals. Here's a breakdown of the key points you should be aware of.

Passport Applications and Fees

For individuals up to and including 23 years, the passport fee is 37.50 euros (validity: 6 years). For those aged 24 years and above, the fee is 70 euros (validity: 10 years).

In the case of minors under 18 years, both legal guardians' consent is required, with the signature of both parties. In exceptional cases, a consent declaration of the other parent with signature comparison (scan of passport/personal ID card) is also sufficient, with prior approval from the passport authority. From the age of 10, the child's signature is required.

Submitting Applications and Requirements

The presence of your child, regardless of age, is mandatory during the passport application. You can submit your application at any of the Citizen's Offices located in City Center, Haunstetten, Lechhausen, Kriegshaber, and Hochzoll. The Citizen's Office also offers online appointment reservation.

The Citizen's Office can take passport photos directly before submitting the application for a fee of 6 euros. Alternatively, you can have your biometric photograph taken at a certified photo studio or drugstore. As of August 1, 2025, only digital passport photos will be accepted. The use of paper photos for biometric photographs is no longer available.

For driver's license applications, paper photos can still be used.

Special Cases and Additional Services

In urgent situations, express passports and provisional passports can be requested from the Citizen's Office. The status of passport applications can be inquired about at the Citizen's Office.

If you have gotten married since and your current personal ID card does not reflect your new name, your marriage certificate is required. In cases where this is the first time you are applying for a personal ID card in Augsburg and you cannot present an existing old personal ID card/passport, your birth certificate is required.

Starting May 1, 2025, only authorities will be authorized to digitally capture biometric photos for identity cards, passports, and electronic residence permits. Specific local offices or Bürgerämter in Augsburg will provide these services, but private photo studios like Studioline in Augsburg City Galerie offer passport photos not necessarily meeting the new official digital capture requirements for issuance.

Identity documents can be delivered by post from May 2025 for an additional fee of 15 euros.

Contact Information

Documents can be picked up at any time during the Citizen's Office's opening hours from the document pickup box, provided they have been requested in advance. The Speed Capture Kiosk in all citizen offices can be used for self-capture of biometric photographs, but is not suitable for children under 5 years old.
