Israeli military actions claim 40 lives in the Gaza Strip
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, has spoken out against the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip, expressing criticism of Israel's conduct in the conflict. Türk's condemnation follows a series of Israeli attacks that have resulted in significant loss of life.
According to reports from the Palestinian news agency Wafa, at least 40 people have died in Israeli attacks since the early morning, with 25 of these deaths reported in Gaza City alone. Six Palestinians waiting for help were reportedly killed by Israeli fire in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.
Israel's Defense Minister, Israel Katz, is coordinating the military action in the Gaza Strip. Katz has approved a plan for the military to capture Gaza City and has called for the conscription of about 60,000 reservists for this operation, as of September 2025.
The Israeli army has emphasized that it is sparing the civilian population in its attacks on Hamas and other terror targets. However, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, has condemned the mass killing and destruction in the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli army has also accused Hamas of using civilian infrastructure and civilians as human shields. Hamas is said to have placed explosives in a high-rise building that the Israeli army recently attacked.
Heavy international criticism is being directed at Israel due to its conduct of the war. The claims about the attacks and deaths cannot be independently verified at this time. The Israeli army is currently investigating these reports.
Amidst the ongoing conflict, Volker Türk's condemnation serves as a call for both sides to prioritize the protection of civilians and respect international humanitarian law. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights has issued a condemnation of the war in the Gaza Strip, urging all parties involved to work towards a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
