Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu incites Egyptian authorities
In the ongoing conflict between Israel and the Gaza Strip, tensions have reached a new high as the Israeli army prepares for an invasion of Gaza City. The planned operation aims to free the remaining 20 hostages, following a series of intense exchanges between the two parties.
The Israeli Finance Minister, Bezalel Smotrich, along with several Likud party members, has proposed a controversial plan for the "voluntary" expulsion of Gaza Strip residents to various countries after the war. However, there is no publicly available information indicating that negotiations with specific countries have taken place regarding possible exchange locations for evacuating residents.
Meanwhile, Egypt has been under pressure from Israel to establish refugee camps on the Sinai Peninsula for the residents of the Gaza Strip since October 2023. The Egyptian government, despite facing protests and criticism from their own ranks, is pushing through with their plans for the Gaza Strip.
The situation in Gaza City has deteriorated significantly, with two 14-story buildings collapsing after Israeli fighter jet bombings. Residents have been urged to flee to a southern safety zone, and the border fences between the Gaza Strip and Israel have been further reinforced over the weekend, with more army units stationed on the Egyptian side of Rafah.
The Israeli government's decision to end talks about a $35 billion joint gas project with Egypt, accusing them of violating the peace agreement due to the deployment of troops near the Gaza-Israel border, further strains relations between the two nations.
Internationally, efforts are being made to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. The Global Sumud Flotilla, aiming to bring humanitarian aid to the region, is set to depart from Tunis on Wednesday. Notable Egyptian journalist Amr Adib has stated his readiness to fight against Israel if necessary, while Foreign Minister Badr Abdellaty described the proposed "voluntary evacuation from Gaza" as "nonsense" and called for an end to Israel's blockade of international aid organizations.
Defense Minister Israel Katz has warned that Gaza City would be destroyed if Hamas does not agree to Israel's conditions for ending the war. Meanwhile, Egyptian social media has been abuzz with discussions of potential war with Israel, with maps showing Israeli territorial claims on the Sinai circulating. More and more army officers in Egypt are expressing a desire to end the decades-long cooperation with the Israeli army.
Amidst this volatile situation, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has provided proof of the seriousness of the situation regarding the Gaza Strip. The international community continues to watch closely, hoping for a peaceful resolution to this complex and long-standing conflict.
