Jai Hindley Prepares for Crucial Stages in Vuelta a España

Australian cyclist Jai Hindley is gearing up for the next two crucial days in the Vuelta a España, where he is competing as a Grand Tour leader for Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe. The race has not yet reached Madrid, with Hindley focusing on the upcoming stage, particularly the iconic Alto de l'Angliru on Friday.

Hindley, who has previously appeared in the Vuelta in support of Primož Roglič, finds himself in the 8th place overall, 2:30 behind Jonas Vingegaard. This is his first Grand Tour as a leader since the 2023 Tour de France.

The cyclist's journey in the Vuelta has been marked by mixed results on the big climbing days of the first 12 stages. Hindley, however, remains undeterred by the events of the previous day and is confident about his form improving during the race.

It's worth noting that Hindley suffered a concussion and fracture to his back after a crash at the Giro in May. Despite this setback, he feels staying at his top level is the simplest solution to his new role as a leader.

The Vuelta a España has not been kind to Hindley so far, with no stage victories to his name. However, a victory on either the Angliru on stage 13 or stage 14's Lagos de Somiedo could help him get back on a Grand Tour podium. Hindley has already won a stage at the Tour and two at the Giro, making a victory at the Vuelta a significant milestone in his career.

Recent events, such as pro-Palestine protests in the Basque Country, have forced organisers to cut the day short and cancel the finale. Despite this, Hindley reached the 3km to go mark on the neutralised stage to Bilbao, demonstrating his resilience and determination.

As the race progresses, Hindley and his Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe team will be aiming to secure a strong finish in the Vuelta a España, with Hindley's sights set on the podium.
