New Director of Campus Recreation at Penn Brings Extensive Experience

James Rogers has been named the new Director of Campus Recreation at the University of Pennsylvania, effective from September 1. Rogers brings a wealth of experience in recreation and wellness to his new role, having previously worked as the director of university recreation at Drexel and the executive director at the Spring Valley YMCA.

Prior to his appointment at Penn, Rogers managed a 175,000 square foot flagship YMCA in Royersford, Pennsylvania, serving over 17,000 members. During his tenure, the Spring Valley YMCA operated with a $6.4M budget and Rogers developed and implemented a comprehensive marketing and member engagement strategy, resulting in a 9% increase year-over-year in membership enrollment. He also secured the highest-ever annual fundraising total for the Spring Valley YMCA, increasing the annual campaign by 36%.

Alanna Wren, the T. Gibbs Kane, Jr. W'69 Director of Athletics and Recreation at Penn, expressed her impressions with Rogers' leadership in recreation. Wren mentioned Rogers' record of advancement within institutions and serving the needs of members. She is looking forward to welcoming Rogers back to University City and joining the Penn community.
