Jerusalem's Light Rail System Restarts Normal Services

Jerusalem is on the brink of a significant transportation milestone, as Mayor Moshe Lion announced the return of the Red Line to full operation. This development is set to bring much-needed relief to the city's residents, who have been eagerly awaiting the restoration of essential light rail service.

The Red Line's return to full operation marks the successful completion of the restoration of light rail service to tens of thousands of passengers. With the line back in action, the city is one step closer to becoming the first in Israel with a modern, comfortable, light rail network connecting all parts of the city.

While the Red Line returns to full operation, further development along the corridor will continue at night, ensuring that regular service is not disrupted. The Neve Yaakov depot is expected to open in the coming days, enhancing the operational flexibility of the light rail.

However, commuters should be aware that Haturim Station will remain closed in the coming weeks due to ongoing infrastructure and safety system work. The opening date for Haturim Station will be announced later.

In the meantime, starting Tuesday, September 2, 2025, shuttle lines 500-503 will be discontinued, and bus routes in southwestern Jerusalem will return to their original routes, except for line 27, which will continue to run to the Central Station. This change is part of a broader plan to streamline the city's transportation system.

This is indeed a significant step towards an outstanding transportation revolution in Jerusalem. The city's residents can look forward to a more efficient, comfortable, and connected transportation network in the near future.

Regarding the safety certification of the Jerusalem Light Rail Red Line, the Israeli Transport Minister has not publicly disclosed which authority has been assigned this responsibility. Nonetheless, the return of the Red Line to full operation is a testament to the commitment to safety and reliability that underpins this ambitious project.
