Jews traveling in Haute-Savoie found with "Free Palestine" graffiti on their vehicles

In the picturesque town of Châtel, Haute-Savoie, at least three cars belonging to Jewish tourists were vandalized on the night of August 19 to 20. The vandalism, which was accompanied by the graffiti "Free Palestine," has been condemned as an anti-Semitic act by the CRIF (Representative Council of Jewish Institutions in France).

The vandalized cars were owned by tourists who are known in the commune. According to the mayor, Nicolas Rubin, these tourists can be easily identified by their attire. The vandalism, he suggested, may have been motivated by the attire of the tourists.

The CRIF, in a statement, has condemned the vandalism with the greatest firmness. They link the hatred of Israel to the fuel of anti-Semitism and find targeting Jewish families in France unacceptable. The organization has also expressed regret over the incident, echoing the sentiments of the mayor.

In response to the vandalism, an increased law enforcement presence has been decided in Châtel for Wednesday. The gendarmerie is seeking the perpetrators of the vandalism, and an investigation has been initiated to find them. However, the perpetrators have not been explicitly identified in the available sources.

The vandalism occurred in the context of the current international situation between Israel and Gaza. While the vandalism was not specified as being linked to any particular group or organization, it serves as a reminder of the ongoing tension and the need for understanding and respect among all communities.

As the investigation continues, the community of Châtel and the CRIF call for unity and solidarity in the face of such incidents. They urge everyone to stand against hate and discrimination, promoting peace and harmony instead.
