Jobless rates experienced another dip in May 2023
The employment landscape in the Nagold-Pforzheim district of Baden-Württemberg is displaying resilience, despite a challenging economic environment. According to the latest data, there are currently 5,176 open jobs in the district, marking a 0.2% increase from the previous month but a 14.9% decrease compared to the same period last year.
Martina Lehmann, head of the Agentur für Arbeit Nagold-Pforzheim, is pleased with the reduction in long-term unemployment and unemployment among disabled people. The number of long-term unemployed has decreased by 6.1% to 3,909 compared to May 2022. Among disabled people, there was a decrease of 0.8% to 826 unemployed compared to May 2022.
The job market in Pforzheim, specifically, shows a slight improvement, with the unemployment rate remaining unchanged at 5.9% compared to the previous year. The number of unemployed people in Pforzheim decreased by 0.1 percentage points from April to May, with 4,095 people registered as unemployed. Of the unemployed in Pforzheim, 34.3% are receiving unemployment insurance, and 65.7% are receiving basic security.
However, all population groups, with the exception of long-term unemployed and disabled people, were affected by an increase in unemployment compared to the previous year. The labor market in the district, based on all civilian employed persons, is now at 3.7%, 0.1 percentage points lower than the previous month.
In a positive development, there were 318 new job offers in May, which is 8.5% more than in the previous month and 11.6% more than in May 2022. This increase in new job offers could potentially contribute to further reducing the unemployment rate in the district.
It's worth noting that as of mid-May, there are 1,218 open job offers, 10.4% fewer than a year ago. Similarly, 3,939 vocational training positions were reported to the employment service of the employment agency as of the same period, which is 7.2% fewer than the previous year.
Despite these decreases, the district continues to attract new job seekers. Since October last year, 2,405 job seekers have registered with the Agentur für Arbeit Nagold-Pforzheim for an apprenticeship position, which is 2.6% more than the same period last year.
In neighbouring Enzkreis, the unemployment rate is also decreasing, now at 2.8%, down by 0.1 percentage points. Pforzheim, however, ranks second to last among all 44 city and district councils in Baden-Württemberg.
Martina Lehmann, currently assigned to the city regions of Nagold and Pforzheim in Baden-Württemberg as the head of the Employment Agency Nagold-Pforzheim, remains optimistic about the future of the job market in the district. The reduction in long-term unemployment and unemployment among disabled people is a positive sign, indicating a steps towards recovery in the job market.
