Joint Action Day in Hagen, Siegen-Wittgenstein, and Marker Region: Three Authorities Unite for Enhanced Safety on Motorcycle Routes

Motorcycle Safety Action Day Across North Rhine-Westphalia

On May 18, 2025, a large-scale motorcycle safety action day was conducted in Hagen, Siegen-Wittgenstein, and Märkischer Kreis. The goal was to prevent motorcycle accidents and strengthen traffic safety.

In Siegen-Wittgenstein, traffic safety advisors set up an information stand in the "applause curve" between Hilchenbach and Netphen, conducting numerous preventive conversations. No technical defects were found in the motorcycles checked during the day. However, a Kawasaki rider was measured at 151 km/h, exceeding the permitted speed of 100 km/h.

Meanwhile, in Hagen, police officers carried out speed and vehicle checks at several control points. They offered motorcyclists the opportunity to view an airbag vest or test "drunk goggles." Around 140 speeding offenses (cars and motorcycles) and several mobile phone offenses were recorded. A motorcyclist from Lünen was unable to present the required driver's license for his Honda, and a criminal proceeding was initiated against him for the suspected offense of driving without a license.

In the Märkischer Kreis, 35 motorcyclists were caught driving too fast, with one motorcyclist reaching a speed of 56 km/h over the limit, which could result in a driving ban. The police forces in the Märkischer Kreis found technical defects on a total of 13 motorcycles, including issues with tires and exhaust systems.

The police authorities in all three regions thanked the support of the traffic safety association, DEKRA, and the German Red Cross. The Red Cross was present in the "applause curve" on the Nordhelle in the Märkischer Kreis, demonstrating first aid. Similar deployments are already planned for the future in the Märkischer Kreis.

The joint control day in the Märkischer Kreis was successful with many good and informative conversations. The authorities appeal for responsible driving and attention to safety for all motorcyclists. The names of the police officers involved in the large-scale action day are not disclosed in the available sources.

In addition to the action day, preventive conversations and information stands have been set up in various locations, aiming to sensitize car drivers to dangers with accident videos in the Märkischer Kreis. Similar deployments are also planned for the future in the Märkischer Kreis.

The action day was part of a broader initiative to improve traffic safety and prevent accidents, especially involving motorcycles. The authorities will continue to work together to ensure the safety of all road users.
