Joint Statement by the Duisburg Prosecutor's Office and the Wesel - Dinslaken County Police Department
On Tuesday evening at around 6 PM, a shoplifting incident took place at a grocery store on Hans-Böckler-Straße in Dinslaken, Wesel County. The suspects, an 18-year-old and a 30-year-old woman, managed to pass through the checkout area without paying for the stolen goods.
The store manager, who witnessed the theft, confronted the suspects and escorted them to the staff office. The police officers were promptly called and temporarily detained the suspects.
According to the head of the press department of the Polizeidirektion Wesel, Peter Reuters, who took over the leadership of the press and public relations division in January 2022, both suspects are now facing charges of shoplifting.
The 30-year-old suspect resides in Duisburg, while the 18-year-old suspect has no fixed residence in Germany. The suspects were seen using rolling shopping bags to carry the stolen goods.
After consultation with the Duisburg Public Prosecutor's Office, the 30-year-old suspect was released. The investigation is still ongoing, and further updates will be provided as they become available.
