Joint Statement from the Prosecutor's Office in Ulm and the Police Department concerning the LangenauA7 incident
In an unusual incident on the A7 motorway, a 70-year-old man was arrested for driving the wrong way near Langenau on the night of 6th August 2025. The man, driving a Hyundai i20, initially entered the motorway from the "St. Jakob" rest area going the wrong way.
The police were alerted to the wrong-way driver around 23:40, and they were able to stop the vehicle just before the Ulm/Elchingen motorway junction. The man drove on the two-lane carriageway on the left-hand overtaking lane in the direction of Langenau before re-entering the A7 in the direction of Würzburg. He drove as far as the Lonetal Ost service station before re-entering the motorway again at around 00:02 and driving the wrong way once more.
Fortunately, no accidents occurred, and the police were able to apprehend the suspect before any potential harm could be caused. The judge issued a warrant for the suspect's arrest on suspicion of attempted manslaughter.

The Public Prosecutor's Office in Ulm ordered the seizure of the vehicle and the driver's license. The suspect was arrested and presented to the competent judge at the Ulm District Court the next day (07.08.2025).
