In the heart of South Africa, a man named Tom Brown was born and raised, nurturing a profound interest in a diverse range of subjects that would shape his academic and personal life.
Brown, an alumnus of the University of South Africa (Unisa), where he earned his MSc in 1997, later pursued a PhD from an undisclosed university in Pretoria, graduating in 2006. His scholarly focus centred on abstract analysis, Markov operators, and stochastic processes.
Beyond the realm of academia, Brown's interests span far and wide. He is captivated by the natural sciences, languages and literature, religion, and writing popular essays. His love for storytelling is evident in his affinity for adventure, science fiction, and fantasy movies, with the Narnia stories and the Lord of the Rings holding a special place in his heart.
Brown's literary tastes are as diverse as his interests. He admires the works of Jules Verne, HG Wells, Jack London, Shakespeare, William Blake, and Dylan Thomas. When not engrossed in a book, he can be found enjoying a meal, particularly in romantic settings, or indulging in nature hikes, camping, fishing, and listening to music.

In his youth, Brown excelled in science and mathematics competitions and completed two years of mechanical engineering in high school. Despite a limited academic activity in recent years, he looks forward to being involved in formal research and teaching.
