Jubilee Celebration Ensues at Martin Luther Church: Gospel Performance
The Gospelresounds Dresden-Neustadt, a renowned choir with a rich history, is set to celebrate its 20th anniversary on September 5, 2025, at the Martin-Luther-Kirche. The anniversary concert, titled "20 Years of Gospelresounds our Quarter," promises an evening filled with captivating and meditative sounds, traditional spirituals, and contemporary gospel music.
Founded in September 2005 by cantor Elke Voigt in the Quarter parish, the choir has grown over the years to consist of approximately 40 singers, ranging in age from 13 to 74. New members are always welcome to join the choir, which requires regular attendance at rehearsals and performances, and an openness to the choir's Christian orientation.
The Gospelresounds have made a significant impact in the musical community, regularly leading services and preparing a new concert program each year. Highlights of recent years include performances at the Dresden City Festival, the 2011 Kirchentag, and collaborations with choirs such as Coloured Rain or the Laurentsingers. In 2013, they collaborated with the Laurentsingers on a CD project benefiting the Dresden Foreigners' Council.
For their anniversary concert, the music direction is taken over by Elke Voigt. Alongside the choir, former members, guests, and a band will perform, including Markus Pötschke on saxophone, Marcel Schrenk on piano, Reinmar Gerber on bass, Dana Leichsenring on drums, and Elke Voigt as the leader. The concert will feature atmospheric lighting effects to enhance the musical experience.
Admission for the concert costs 14 euros, with reduced tickets available for 10 euros. Youth under 18 years have free admission when tickets are obtained through the parish administration. Tickets for the concert are available at the community center and online at www.reservix.de.
In preparation for the anniversary concert, the choir gathered with guests for a joint rehearsal weekend at Schloss Thammenhain. The concert, titled "listen in," takes place at the Martin-Luther-Kirche at 8 PM on September 5, 2025. It is a celebration not just of the choir's musical achievements, but also of the community that has supported and nurtured it for the past 20 years.
