Kakrail's Jatiyo Party office gets vandalised and torched for the second time.

In a series of recent events, political tension in Bangladesh has escalated, with incidents of violence occurring at political rallies and party offices.

On August 29, Nur, a party leader, was injured in a clash with Jatiyo Party activists in Kakrail. This incident followed a solidarity rally held by Gono Odhikar Parishad in Shahbagh, which was a pre-announced program.

The BNP, one of the parties involved in the rally, has expressed deep concern and strongly condemned the attack on the Jatiyo Party's central office. The attack on the Jatiyo Party headquarters in Dhaka occurred on the evening of September 5, with unknown assailants causing damage and setting the building on fire.

In response to the incident, additional forces were deployed in front of the office, and police used water cannons, sound grenades, and batons to disperse the crowd. The fire has since been doused, and the situation is now under control.

The rally by various political parties, including BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and others, centered around a three-point demand: immediate punishment of those responsible for the attack on the Jatiyo Party office, banning of the Awami League's allies (Jatiyo Party and 14-Party Alliance), cancellation of their registrations, and the resignation of the home affairs adviser.

Gono Odhikar Parishad General Secretary Md Rashed Khan denied involvement in the attack and suggested that enraged people or internal feuds within the Jatiyo Party could be behind the incident. Rashed Khan also stated that the Jatiyo Party is an ally of the Awami League and complicit in genocide.

In a separate incident, the Jatiyo Party office in Khulna was attacked and vandalized, involving members of the police and alleged supporters of Nurul Haque Nur.

On August 30, the Jatiyo Party's Kakrail office was again vandalized and set on fire, prompting another response from the police.

The BNP statement also emphasized that such incidents would create confusion and frustration among the public about the hopes of building a democratic state and society after the July Uprising. The statement also read that attempting to suppress freedom of expression through force reflects an authoritarian mindset and goes against the spirit of democracy and the ideals of July.

Intimidation, violence, or threats to stop the activities of a political party are incompatible with the principles of multi-party democracy, according to the BNP. The party believes that in a genuine democracy, the existence of multiple political parties is indispensable, and whether a party can continue its organizational activities or even survive depends solely on the will of the people.
