Kazakhstan Initiates Drilling of Initial Probing Well at Emerging Oil Site
In the heart of Kazakhstan's Atyrau Region, Embamunaigas, a subsidiary of KazMunayGas, has commenced drilling the first exploratory well at the Taisoigan site. This significant development is part of an effort to enhance Kazakhstan's overall energy resources and boost the Atyrau Region's energy potential and economic stability.
The Taisoigan site, located within the Caspian sedimentary basin, is home to Mesozoic suprasalt structures and has a rich history of hydrocarbon discoveries. Nearby, the Uaz, Uaz North, and Kondybai deposits, among others, have already been discovered.
The drilling at the Taisoigan site is being carried out using a large-scale 3D seismic survey covering 5,600 square kilometers. The project aims to discover new hydrocarbon reserves in the region and expand Kazakhstan's resource base, particularly in regions with mature fields experiencing natural reserve depletion.
Embamunaigas plans to drill eight structures at the Taisoigan site, with depths ranging from 400 to 3,800 meters. By the end of 2025, the drilling at the Taisoigan site is scheduled to be completed.
This exploratory drilling adheres to Kazakhstan's legislation and environmental requirements, ensuring a sustainable and responsible approach to subsoil use operations.
In 2025, Embamunaigas also plans a total of several more boreholes near the Taisoigan site to enhance natural gas extraction. The map of the Taisoigan site can be seen in full size at The Astana Times.
This crucial exploration project underscores KazMunayGas's commitment to Kazakhstan's energy sector and its vision for a sustainable and prosperous future. The drilling at the Taisoigan site is being reported by KazMunayGas's press service.
