Kazakhstan set to welcome Al Jazeera broadcasting services

In the lead-up to the Second Central Asian Media Forum in Astana, Ruslan Zheldibai, Press Secretary of the President of Kazakhstan, met with representatives from Al Jazeera and CGTN. The meeting, held recently, focused on the prospective opening of an Al Jazeera correspondent office in Kazakhstan.

During the discussion, Zheldibai proposed the launch of a joint TV project to promote cultural exchange between Kazakhstan and China. This initiative, if realised, would be a significant step towards enhancing mutual understanding and fostering closer ties between the two nations.

The proposed office is expected to enable the creation of original news content about events in Kazakhstan and all of Central Asia. Additionally, the discussion included plans for the production of documentary series that would delve into the history, nature, and development of Kazakhstan.

Zheldibai's meeting with Al Jazeera follows a memorandum of cooperation he signed with the media organisation during the state visit of the Head of State to Qatar. He also discussed prospects for cooperation in the media sphere with Deputy Chief Editor of CGTN Din Yun.

The wide coverage of friendly relations and the dynamics of strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and China was another key topic of the meeting. Zheldibai reported about the meeting on his Telegram channel, providing insights into the potential collaborations that were discussed.

The Second Central Asian Media Forum is scheduled to begin today, offering a platform for media professionals to discuss and collaborate on various issues. The potential opening of an Al Jazeera office in Kazakhstan is a significant development that could contribute to the forum's objectives and further strengthen the media landscape in the region.
