The 2018 NBA Draft saw some significant moves and exciting new additions to the league. Here's a roundup of the key events.

The Phoenix Suns kicked off the draft by selecting Deandre Ayton, a center from Arizona, as the first overall pick. Meanwhile, the Atlanta Hawks took Luka Doncic, a European star from Slovenia, third overall, on behalf of the Dallas Mavericks. This pick was part of a draft trade that also included Luka Doncic.

The Sacramento Kings followed suit, selecting Marvin Bagley III, a forward from Duke, with the No. 2 pick. The Dallas Mavericks then added another promising talent to their roster by acquiring the fourth pick, where they selected Mohamed Bamba, a Harlem native who joined the Orlando Magic after the trade.

The 2018 draft also marked the start of the second year of the New York Knicks' post-Carmelo Anthony rebuild. With the ninth pick, they selected Kevin Knox, a forward from Kentucky. Knox, who turns 19 on August 11, joins All-Star forward Kristaps Porzingis, Frank Ntilikina, and Tim Hardaway Jr. as part of the Knicks' young core.

Interestingly, the Cleveland Cavaliers acquired the pick that selected Collin Sexton from the Boston Celtics in a deal that sent All-Star Kyrie Irving to Boston. Sexton, a point guard from Alabama, was selected by the Cavaliers with a pick originally belonging to the Brooklyn Nets.

The Brooklyn Nets, however, have not used their own first-round pick since 2013 due to trades with the Boston Celtics and the Atlanta Hawks. This year, they entered the offseason in control of their 2019 first-round pick. In the 2019 NBA Draft, the Nets selected Nic Claxton with their pick.

The Nets' roster also includes Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, who joined the team in 2013 in a trade that saw the Celtics part with a first-round pick. Joe Johnson, another notable player, came to Brooklyn ahead of the franchise's first season in the borough in 2012, in a separate deal with the Atlanta Hawks.

Kentucky's Kevin Knox earned SEC co-Freshman of the Year honors, posting averages of 15.6 points and 5.4 rebounds. With the addition of Knox, the Knicks' young core is looking stronger than ever. The offseason promises to bring more exciting developments for these teams and the NBA as a whole.
