Kidnap suspect aims to aid the Block family
In a dramatic turn of events, the 36-year-old defendant, one of the main accused in the trial against Hamburg entrepreneur Christina Block, has made several revelations during his court proceedings.
The defendant, who served part of his military service with the Israeli police and later worked as an investigator for an electricity provider, admitted to leading an operation in southern Denmark. However, he claims it was not an abduction, but a rescue of the children from their allegedly dangerous father.
The defendant's statements were seen as confirming Christina Block's position by her lawyer, as she has consistently maintained that she was only trying to protect her children. The defendant described the exact course of the operation and the distribution of roles among the participants upon request from his lawyer, Philip von der Meden.
The children were initially taken to a farm in southern Germany, but the defendant could not answer why they were driven there instead of directly to Hamburg. He also stated that he was not even with the children at the time when they were allegedly threatened that they could also be killed.
The Israeli security firm accused of orchestrating the abduction of Christina Block's children to return them to Germany is not named explicitly in the sources. However, Israeli ex-agent Tal S. and associates linked to an Israeli security company were charged with planning and executing the abduction operation in late 2023/early 2024.
The children were taken back to their father in Denmark by order of the Hanseatic Higher Regional Court (OLG) four days after the retrieval operation. In February 2024, the OLG ruled that German courts were no longer competent, as the children had since established their permanent center of life in Denmark.
The defendant made statements freely without any notes, according to his lawyer, Sascha Boettner. He only spoke about the Block family's great desire and fear for their children and their willingness to help them, not about any contract or agreement related to the abduction.
The presiding judge threatened to withdraw the lawyer's right to speak due to giving a permissible explanation for the statement made by the accused and making a kind of evidence assessment. The defendant, an experienced martial artist, rented a car in his real name and did not delete information about the crime scene in Denmark from his phone.
The defendant believes he was doing something good during the operation. He was unaware of any agreement to abduct the children from their father's custody in Denmark and was also unaware that he was committing a crime or that he would be arrested. The mother, Christina Block, was overwhelmed by feelings, overpowered, and "like in a dream" on the farm in southern Germany where the children were initially taken, according to the defendant.
