Krasnodar Airport may potentially be set to reopen

In a significant development, Gelendzhik Airport in Krasnodar, Russia, has reopened its doors to passengers following a period of renovation and modernization. This decision was made on the recommendation of a working group from the Russian civil aviation authority "Rosaviatsiya", who deemed the work completed to the required standards.

The reopening of Gelendzhik Airport comes after the Russian Ministry of Transport (Mintrans RF) resumed operations at the nearby Gelendzhik Airport earlier this year. The airport, which is located on the shores of the Black Sea, is now ready to serve over 125,000 passengers in 2025.

However, not all airports in the region are operational. Airports in Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Kursk, Lipetsk, Rostov-on-Don, and Simferopol are currently closed, adding to the travel disruptions in the region.

The airports in Krasnodar and Anapa, which were operational prior to the special military operation, remain closed. Efforts are being made to explore different options for reopening Krasnodar Airport, but no concrete plans have been announced as of yet.

Daily flights to Gelendzhik Airport operate from 08:30 to 20:00 Moscow time. Six airlines, including Aeroflot, S7 Airlines, Ural Airlines, Smartavia, UTair, and Red Wings, serve the Gelendzhik Airport to Moscow route, providing passengers with various options for travel.

As the region continues to navigate through these challenging times, the reopening of Gelendzhik Airport offers a glimmer of hope for travellers seeking to visit the beautiful Black Sea coast. It's a step towards normalcy, albeit a small one, in a region that has been significantly impacted by recent events.
