Labor Day no longer considered the signature beginning for the Canadian Football League by Hamilton Tiger-Cats: 'Last year, it didn't go so well for us'

Professional sports embrace an abundance of clichés akin to a high school English classroom, yet one increasingly problematic for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats hails from the Canadian Football League (CFL). The persistent saying in question fails to resonate with the team.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats Aim to Kickstart Playoff Push on Labour Day

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats are gearing up for a crucial Labour Day clash against the Toronto Argonauts, with quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell expressing a determination to secure a strong position in the East Division.

Currently, the Tiger-Cats find themselves in first place with a 6-4 record, having won five of their last seven games in the 2024 season. However, a disappointing performance two weeks ago against Saskatchewan has left them in a two-game slide, adding weight to Monday's showdown.

Head coach Scott Milanovich, who led the team to a streak of being the hottest CFL team towards the end of the 2024 season, has expressed his disbelief in the common saying that the CFL season doesn't truly start until Labour Day. He emphasizes the importance of every game, not just those played after the holiday.

"We're focused on getting hot starting from Labour Day," Mitchell said, echoing Milanovich's sentiments. "Our goal isn't just to make the playoffs, it's to be in first place."

The Tiger-Cats will host the Argonauts (3-8) at Hamilton Stadium on Monday, September 1. The game will be broadcast on TSN in Canada, CBS Sports Network in the United States, and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune-in on TSN 1050 in Toronto and the Ticats Audio Network in Hamilton.

The Argonauts are coming off a blowout win over B.C., while the Tiger-Cats had a bye week to recover from their loss to the Riders. The current quarterback for the Argonauts is Nick Arbuckle.

Despite their recent struggles, Milanovich does not agree with the sentiment that last year's win on Labour Day was meaningless. In fact, the 2024 season started for the Tiger-Cats on Labour Day, marking the beginning of a four-game winning streak.

The weather forecast in Hamilton for the game is 23 degrees with sunny skies, promising a perfect day for football. As the Tiger-Cats look to regain their form and secure a playoff spot, Monday's game against the Argonauts takes on significant importance.
