Holy Cross Lacrosse Teams Prepare for New Seasons

The Holy Cross Women’s and Men’s Lacrosse teams are gearing up for their respective seasons, with each team having a unique set of challenges and opportunities ahead.

The Women’s Lacrosse team will kick off their non-league schedule at home against Fairfield on February 10, followed by games against Bryant, Stanford, and Iona. Away games against the University of New Hampshire, UMass Amherst, and Stonehill College are also on the schedule. Last season, the team finished 4-5 in Patriot League play and 7-10 overall, a record they will be looking to improve upon.

Junior Jessi Button will return for the team, and her performance will be closely watched. Last season, Butler scored 23 goals and had 12 assists, finishing with a total of 35 points. Junior Baker Earl also had a strong season, scoring 19 points for the team.

However, the Women’s Lacrosse team has not had a winning record in a full season since 2012. They managed to achieve a winning record in the shortened 2020 season, but the team will be aiming for a full season of success this year.

Over on the Men’s Lacrosse side, the team started their season on February 4 with a loss against Providence. They will be looking to turn things around as they prepare for their non-league schedule, which includes home games against Providence and Sacred Heart, and away games against UMass Lowell, Dartmouth, and Le Moyne.

Last season, the Men’s Lacrosse team finished last in the Patriot League, with their only win coming against UMass Lowell. The team is hoping to surpass last year’s record in the upcoming season, which will begin on February 1, 2024, and conclude in late April.

Seniors Logan LeBlond, Henry Lilly, Jake Maruna, and Rich Palazzese were honoured for their commitment to the team, and their leadership will be crucial in the upcoming season. The team also has upcoming games against strong opponents, including Columbia on September 19 and Princeton on September 27, both considered challenging matches.

Despite the challenges ahead, the Holy Cross Men’s Lacrosse team is optimistic about their prospects for the season. They have not had a winning season since 2020, but with a strong non-league schedule and the leadership of their seniors, they are hopeful for a successful season.

Overall, both the Holy Cross Women’s and Men’s Lacrosse teams are looking forward to the upcoming season, with each team aiming to improve upon their past performances. Fans can look forward to exciting games and the potential for both teams to have winning seasons.
