Lake Disappearance: Person Unaccounted for in Mössner Lake

On a fateful evening of August 12, 2025, at 6 PM, a distress call was made about a person in danger on the Mozenener See. The call was answered by the Cooperative Regional Control Center West in Elmshorn, which initiated a large-scale emergency response with the call sign "TH Wasser Y".

The Volunteer Fire Department Mozen, Volunteer Fire Department Wittenborn, Volunteer Fire Department Kuekels, Volunteer Fire Department Leezen, Volunteer Fire Department Wahlstedt, Volunteer Fire Department Bad Segeberg, Professional Fire Department Luebeck: Special Unit Firefighter Divers, Leezen Am administration, Segeberg County Fire Association: Press Spokesman, Rettungsdienst-Kooperation in Schleswig-Holstein: Organisational Leader of Rescue Services, Doctor, three rescue vehicles, Deutsche Lebens-Rettungs-Gesellschaft: OV Norderstedt, OV Elmshorn, Deutsches-Rotes-Kreuz: Water Rescue OV Bad Segeberg, Bundesverband Rettungshunde, Police Segeberg and Pinneberg were among the forces involved in the operation.

Initial responders included a water rescue vehicle and another sonar boat from the Deutsche Lebens-Rettungs-Gesellschaft Elmshorn local group, as well as inflatable boats from Wittenborn, Wahlstedt, and Bad Segeberg. Rescue swimmers were deployed from both the Wittenborn and Mozen sides of the lake. However, due to the distance, an immediate swimming rescue was not possible.

The shoreline was searched on foot by several teams, and the search radius was defined by the collaboration of sonar boats and rescue dogs. The search continued with three sonar boats locating several suspicious points underwater in collaboration. These points were subsequently searched by rescue dogs.

Unfortunately, despite the heroic efforts of the emergency services, the points found underwater were found to be empty during the dive. Due to the elapsed time since the last sighting and the resulting low chances of survival, the operation was switched from a rescue to a recovery mission at 8 PM.

After five hours of search, the operation was called off at 11 PM without success. There is no publicly available information about the woman who was in distress on August 12, 2025, at 6 PM in Mözener See.
