Lancaster set to complete £30 million project for affordable housing development

Eric Wright Construction, a leading North West principal contractor, has been appointed to lead the Coopers Fields project, a significant milestone in the plan to revitalize the Canal Quarter area by Lancaster City Council. The contract pertains to the construction of 139 homes at the 0.9 hectare Coopers Fields site.

The Coopers Fields project is part of the larger regeneration of the Canal Quarter area, which will provide a total of 580 homes. This first phase of the regeneration will also include two public squares and more than 75,000 square feet of commercial space.

Anderton Gables has been appointed as the retained consultant project manager for the Coopers Fields project. PRP, a renowned architectural firm, will be responsible for the project's design. The council's housing team is leading the Coopers Fields project, having appointed Eric Wright Construction under a preconstruction services agreement.

Eric Wright Construction's selection for this project is noteworthy, as they have demonstrated a commitment to sustainable construction in their previous schemes. The regeneration project will incorporate green buildings and Passivhaus principles, aiming to provide local people and families with much-needed affordable housing while minimizing environmental impact.

Phil Brown, the commercial director of Eric Wright Construction, expressed enthusiasm about the project, citing their previous experience in the area and their commitment to sustainable construction. "We are thrilled to be part of this exciting project that will help shape the future of Lancaster's Canal Quarter," Brown said.

The regeneration of the Canal Quarter area stretches from St Leonard's Gate to Quarry Road. The project aims to revitalize this area, contributing significantly to the local housing and commercial infrastructure in Lancaster.

The Coopers Fields project is a significant step forward in making the ambitious housing vision for the Canal Quarter area a reality. The collaboration between Eric Wright Construction and the design team under early contractor engagement protocols promises a promising future for this regeneration project.
