Large police presence at Gaza demonstration led by former AfD politician Sentürk, yet attendance was minimal
In the heart of Berlin's Neukölln district, a controversial demonstration was scheduled to take place on Saturday. The demonstration, under the guise of Palestine solidarity, was announced by former AfD member Ferhat Sentürk at the Neukölln S-Bahn station.
Sentürk, who has a history of Neonazi appearances in Berlin, has been met with opposition from various quarters. The Left in Neukölln, a local political group, expressed their opposition to Sentürk's demonstration on Facebook, referring to it as a hate demonstration.
Sentürk's past actions have raised concerns. He has been known to organise Neonazi demonstrations in Berlin, make anti-Semitic slogans, and call for violence against Jews. However, after his withdrawal from the right-wing scene, Sentürk received support from two streamers from the pro-Palestinian scene, both of whom are based in Berlin, specifically in the Neukölln district.
The demonstration was met with a low turnout, with only a few demonstrators present. Despite this, the event was heavily policed, with 500 officers and 20 police vans in attendance.
It is not the first time that Sentürk's Neonazi appearances have been blocked in Neukölln. In the past, The Left in Neukölln has successfully thwarted some of his events, demonstrating their commitment to maintaining a peaceful and inclusive community.
