In the heart of the Digital Hub of the Speicherstadt, a new startup factory named Impossible Founders has officially begun its operations. Founded on July 16, 2025, by Arik Willner and his team, this innovative venture aims to bring more science-based startups to market, particularly focusing on green technologies, new materials, artificial intelligence, and data science.

The start of Impossible Founders is considered a significant event in Hamburg's innovation ecosystem. Funded by a grant of 10 million euros from the federal government, supplemented by over 40 million euros from Hamburg companies and foundations, this venture is seen as a milestone in establishing Hamburg as a leading location for Deep-Tech innovations.

The initiative for Impossible Founders was taken by the Michael Otto Foundation and the Joachim Herz Foundation. It works closely with the University of Hamburg, the Technical University of Hamburg, and the research center DESY. Two DESY projects have been classified as "nationally significant", further enhancing the reputation of this research-focused startup factory.

The University of Hamburg (UKE) has also joined the Hamburger research consortium PIER Plus, demonstrating a commitment to fostering a collaborative innovation environment. This move aligns with the location strategy for establishing Hamburg as a leading location for Deep-Tech innovations.

Norbert Aust, President of the Chamber of Commerce Hamburg, has stated that Impossible Founders has the potential to develop into a beacon in the Hamburg innovation ecosystem. The funding for this startup factory is seen as a milestone in line with this strategy.

The article "HHIS 2025: Can Hamburg Innovate?" discusses the innovation capabilities of Hamburg, and the arrival of Impossible Founders adds to the city's growing reputation as a hub for innovative startups.
